Plot

There is no story to this game (what do you expect from a paint sim?), so I'll get right to the main idea. The year: 1992. Nintendo's fledgling Super NES was enjoying increasing popularity, particularly from Super Mario World. Nintendo took the opportunity to begin releasing accessories. One of the first was the SNES Mouse, an interesting little device that allowed you freedom of control on games like SimCity. To create publicity for the mouse, Nintendo released it in a package with Mario Paint. The first of it's kind, Mario Paint pioneered the creativity genre, and to this day remains unsurpassed.

Overview

Most of the graphics in this game are original and simple. Any others are directly from SMW. However, the whole idea is to create your own, and the design engine is handled pretty nicely. The music is quiet background stuff, and the sound affects are varied. The music creator is another nice feature, letting you create a song from a variety of sounds. The gameplay is argueably the most unique of any game on the Super NES. From making pictures, to coloring, to song-writing, to animation, the game includes just about every aspect of art. It even has a fly-swatting game, for those who need a little action.

This is a fun, creative game. And since we won't be seeing Mario Artist, this game deserves a try.
